What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy?

Cognitive Hypnotherapy aims to take the emotion out of the bad memory so that it can be returned as a much smaller issue and even render it insignificant. Most importantly, it can help raise your self-esteem and give you more confidence to help you put your life back on track. Cognitive Hypnotherapy can stop the brain associating negative feelings that happened in a past significant event to a present situation. It can enable you to put a different perspective on your problem and help you build confidence so that your problem becomes less significant.

What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy based on?

Cognitive Hypnotherapy draws on techniques from NLP, Gestalt, positive psychology and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). These combine to create a unique and highly individual form of treatment.

How your brain handles memories

Just try and imagine that your brain is a computer and the "unconscious" state is the hard drive which stores all of your memories.

The brain is continually searching for patterns and in order to make sense of the present it will search for memories from the past to identify a match. Your present and future will be built from the past.

If the brain detects a bad memory associated with what is· happening in the "now", it can create a "fight" or "flight response" which can result in a panic attack. This could be referred to as a "hard wiring" problem!

The Hard Wiring Problem

We all get locked into behaviours, habits and beliefs which we realise are having a detrimental effect on the quality of our lives. However, we still keep doing them! So why is this?

It’s because the “unconscious” is still in control of these responses (the hard wiring problem) and the thought patterns that generate these responses remain hidden from our “conscious awareness”. These patterns can be out of date and inappropriate in our present life.
